Stretch Needles

Stretch Needles For Sewing Spandex, Elastic and Highly Elastic Materials.

When sewing highly elastic materials, a Stretch Needle is essential. These home sewing machine needles feature a round tip to push aside stretch fibers, plus a deep scarf to encourage successful stitch formation. Specially designed to help prevent skipped stitches and visible puncture holes, Stretch needles are ideal for highly elastic materials, such as those containing spandex, Lycra, or elastic, and sewing through elastic directly. They’re a must-have for projects like athletic clothing, swimwear, lingerie and other stretch garments. Choose from several sizes and styles of Stretch Needles, including twin stretch needles for stitching two parallel seams at once. Frequently Asked Questions About Stretch Needles

What needle do you use on stretch fabric?

For highly elastic fabrics containing spandex, Lycra, or elastic, sewing with a Stretch Needle is recommended. For more loosely woven stretch fabrics like gauze, jersey knits or sweatshirt material, a Ballpoint/Jersey Needle is ideal.

Is a stretch needle the same as a ballpoint needle?

Stretch and ballpoint machine needles are similar but not exactly the same. Stretch Needles usually feature a smaller eye and a deeper indentation above the needle eye (known as the scarf). These features make Stretch Needles better suited for very stretchy materials like spandex or elastic, whereas ballpoint needles are used for heavier and more loosely woven stretch materials like jersey.
