CHOOSE FROM 3 TYPES OF MAXI-LOCK THREAD

Maxi-Lock Thread is available in three styles: Maxi-Lock Serger Thread, Maxi-Lock Swirls Thread and Maxi-Lock Stretch Thread. The Standard and Swirls varieties are both 100% polyester, making them the perfect all-purpose choice for a wide variety of hems, edges, seams, and finishes – even on lightweight fabric. Maxi-Lock Swirls Serger Thread is variegated and the perfect choice for adding a bit of colorful flair to any decorative edge, quilt, or overlock embellishment. Maxi-Lock Stretch Thread is the heaviest variety, and its textured nylon lends a softness and stretch that is perfect for softer projects like knits, swimsuits, athletic wear, or children’s clothing.

Maxi-Lock Serger Thread is available in 76 colors, which means you can expect to find the perfect shade to match any fabric. A quality thread in no uncertain terms, Maxi-Lock All Purpose Thread is the best-selling serger thread available today.

Maxi-Lock 100% Polyester Serging Thread

What's the difference between serger thread and sewing thread?

Serger thread, like this 100% polyester Maxi-Lock All Purpose Thread, meets the demands of an overlock machine. It withstands the high speeds and tensions that are unique to serging with ease. The texture of serger thread is smoother than sewing thread, too. This allows the thread to move through the machine at high speeds, and the smooth, consistent texture makes maintaining thread tension a breeze. Plus, it prevents excessive shedding or fraying. Choose from 3,000 yds. or 6,000 yds. cones in a variety of colors.

Can I use this thread in a regular sewing machine? If not which can I? I have a Brother LX3817.

A:
It's a better serger machine thread. This is a spun poly, so it's not not as strong as a poly core thread. Spun polyester thread is generally used with multiple spools of spun polyester thread.

Hello, while people do use it for quilting, in reviewing some quilting forums, people have been advising against it for their long arm machines. The speed of the stitching and the thinner thread seems to give some people problems. Let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Hi, I have been using this maxi lock thread on stretch fabrics, not realizing there is a stretch version. Does it work to use this thread as well or do you recommend I get the stretch thread instead?
NICOLE L.

A:
Yes, you can use stretch thread in addition to or as a substitute for regular thread. Most of the time, it's used in the bobbin of regular sewing machines or in the lower looper of sergers or coverstitch machines.

A:
Hi Alfredo, we would recommend spun polyester for your overlock machine. It's cheaper, and weaker than a core thread, but you are using them with other spools, so it is sufficient. The single needle machine we would recommend a poly wrapped poly core or a cotton covered poly core. Thanks for your question.

Can I use the Maxi-Lock thread on spandex nylon fabric?

If you are serging the spandex nylon material, then the Maxi-Lock Spun polyester thread or the textured Maxi-Lock stretch thread would be suitable. If you are using a lockstitch machine, a poly wrapped-poly core thread is recommended.

What is Spun Polyester thread? How is it different from Core Polyester Thread?
Anonymous
Posting As
Please Note: Your answer will be displayed upon approval.
A:
Spun polyester is made up of thousands of filaments of polyester. Core polyester or poly/poly has a center “core” made of poly, with an additional wrapping of polyester around it. Spun polyester is not as strong as core polyester.
Staff
  • logologo Staff
A:
Though maybe not as strong, spun polyester is much softer and more pliable that core poly. I like to use the spun poly thread for sewing with lightweight chiffon and laces though it works well for most all apparel sewing! Maxi Lock spun poly is a great all purpose thread in my opinion! Mother goose is brown

Disappointed there isn't some sort of physical color card available for thread. The colors on my phone & computer are so different from the actual colors of the maxi lock thread (same for the color print card they provide). Mother goose to me would be a light brown or tan for example, not orange at all. Luckily you can return them fairly easily!

Great Serger thread!

This thread works great in my serger. The only issues I noticed is that brown-cream-yellow colors is off a good bit on my i-phone and computer. Use the catalog color charts it's a bit closer. (Blue jean gold=Gutermann #448). Also, when in doubt call them or question on-line. The lady I have spoken to in the past was very helpful and was able to tell me a lot of good information.

If they have it - get it here!!!

Best prices around on most items. Affordable and reasonable shipping, not padded for extra profit. And very fast shipping, too, which is very important for me. Most importantly, the best customer service. If there is a problem, they will make it right. I once received white thread that had somehow gotten dirty in shipping. They replaced it with no hesitation. I've only ever had a problem twice, once was that thread and once was a mechanical pencil that was defective, in that the lead would not stay advanced, which was obviously a manufacturing defect. They stood behind their sale and sent a replacement and took the loss. Not many companies stand behind their sales in this manner, these days. I will be a loyal customer because of this - if they have it, I'm buying it from Wawak!

Awesome, Every Time

I'm a seamstress, and my shop does mostly alterations and custom made garments. 90% of our work is formal wear with the occasional "please fix my fave..." project. Any kind of fabric in every color could walk through my front door with a 24 hour deadline. My solution: Maxi Lock in every color hanging on a pegboard. My serger loves this stuff. It never lets me down.

Dependable

I have never had a problem with thread breaking while surging. I even used it to restyle a pair of jeans because I was out of my usual "jean-weight" thread. I'd planned on going over them again when I got the other thread but forgot. The thread has held up through washing and wearing!
