Spun Polyester Serging Thread

Spun Polyester Vs. Polyester Core

When it comes to Polyester Threads, there are two main styles that are commonly used, especially for serging threads. Spun Polyester refers to thread consisting of Polyester fibers that are spun into longer strands and then twisted together. Spun Poly Thread has a more natural look and feel, with the luster and sewability of cotton thread plus the strength and stretch of polyester. Spun Poly is also often available in larger spools. Corespun Polyester thread contains a polyester core which the outer fiber is wrapped around. This makes Polyester Core thread extra strong, and has the added benefit of a smooth, matte finish. Corespun Polyester is also known for having a very uniform, consistent look. Both Spun Polyester and Polyester Core are great choices for serging threads, and great for either woven or knit fabrics.

A:
The different thickness would be used for different thicknesses of materials. The tex 40 would be considered a medium weight thread.

Is spun poly Tex 40 physically as thick as core wrapped poly Tex 40? Tex 40 seems thick for serger if it's as thick as mara 70.

A:
Spun polyester is made up of thousands of filaments of polyester. Core polyester or poly/poly has a center “core” made of poly, with an additional wrapping of polyester around it. Spun polyester is not as strong as core polyester.

A:
It's thicker, and would be a little harder to break. Keep in mind that a core thread will be stronger than spun threads.
