Hi, With cotton quilting thread, usually the higher the number the thinner the thread, so 60wt is thinner than 50wt. The Tex 40 says the “size” is 50. I don’t really understand what they mean by this. Is it a 40wt, or a 50wt cotton, as is understood by the quilting community, or is it a different wt completely? Thanks.

A:
Tex is considered a direct numbering system, meaning the higher the Tex number, the heavier the thread. This thread is a Tex 40 or equivalent to a 50wt thread. We list the Tex size for our threads to make it easier to pick the correct thread, but also understand that quilters and embroiderers sometimes use the weight system, so we provide that in the description to help.

What does tex 40 mean on cones of thread? I have seen tex 27 etc. on other packages of thread but don't know what it means. Thanks.

A:
The tex size refers to the weight of the thread. A tex 40 would be a heavier weight thread than the tex 27.
